Introduction

This privacy policy describes how James C. Smith ("we," "us," or "our"), handles information in connection with the mobile application Sky Shapes ("the App"), available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

Information We Collect

Sky Shapes is a puzzle game. We do not require account creation or login, and we do not directly collect personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number. We do not serve advertisements.

However, the App uses Google Firebase Analytics, which automatically collects certain usage and device data, including:

• App usage data: Session duration, screens viewed, in-app events (such as level completions), app opens, and crashes.
• Device information: Device model, operating system and version, screen size, language, and country/region (derived from IP address).
• App instance identifiers: A randomly generated ID assigned to your app installation, used to count unique users. This is not tied to your personal identity.

This data is collected to help us understand how the App is used, identify technical issues, and improve the player experience. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, precise location data, payment information, or any other personally identifiable information.

Marketing Attribution (AppsFlyer)

To understand which of our marketing efforts lead people to discover the App, we use AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement and attribution service. We do not show advertisements inside the App, but we do run promotional campaigns (for example on the app stores and social networks), and AppsFlyer helps us measure how well those campaigns work. Through the AppsFlyer SDK, the following is collected:

• Install & engagement data: App installs, app opens, sessions, and basic device and connection information (device model, operating system and version, IP address and the country/region derived from it).
• Advertising identifier: On Android, the Google Advertising ID (GAID) — a resettable identifier used to attribute an install to a marketing campaign. On iOS, we do not collect the IDFA and do not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt; attribution relies on Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork and aggregated statistical modelling instead.
• Attribution data: The marketing source, campaign, and similar non-identifying touch-point details (if any) associated with your install. Installs that do not come from a campaign are simply recorded as organic.

This attribution data is associated with the same random app-instance identifier described above so we can see, in aggregate, which campaigns bring engaged players. It is used only to measure and improve our own marketing — not to serve you advertisements or build an advertising profile of you.

Daily Trials & Community Features (Opt-In Online Features)

The App includes optional Daily Trials and Community features that let you compete on a global daily leaderboard and connect with other players. Using these features transmits a small amount of data to Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, and Cloud Functions) so that scores, profiles, and follow lists can be ranked and shared.

When you use these features, the following data is created and stored in our Firebase backend:

• Anonymous user identifier: The first time you open Daily Trials, the App signs you in with Firebase Anonymous Authentication. This generates a random user ID that is not linked to any email address, phone number, or real-world identity. The ID is stored on your device and re-used so your scores stay associated with you across sessions.
• Gamer name: Before submitting your first score, you choose a gamer name (3–20 characters). This name is publicly visible to all other players on every leaderboard you appear on. Names are checked against a basic profanity filter and must be unique. Do not include personal information in your gamer name.
• Trial scores: When you finish a daily trial, your completion time, penalty count, and the daily's date are stored in Firestore alongside your anonymous user ID and gamer name. These score records are publicly readable by all other players for leaderboard display.
• Aggregate profile counters: The number of trials you have completed and your highest journey-mode level reached are stored alongside your anonymous user ID to surface on your in-app Profile screen.
• Profile icon: A shape-and-color choice you pick from the in-app icon picker is stored on your user record and shown next to your gamer name on leaderboards, profiles, and follow lists. Publicly visible.
• Journey progress mirror: Your highest journey-mode level reached, current lap number, and a coarse "last seen" timestamp are stored on your user record so the App can sort and surface other players. Publicly visible to other signed-in players in suggested-players, followers, and following lists.
• Follow graph: A list of players you follow and a list of players who follow you, with timestamps. Both lists are publicly readable by any signed-in player — any player can see who follows whom. Denormalized follower / following counts are also stored on your user record and are public.
• Block list: A private list of players you have blocked, with a private block-count counter. Only you can read your block list. Blocking severs existing follow edges in both directions, prevents new follows from either side, and is not surfaced to the blocked player.
• Suggested players cache: A short, private list of other players the App may surface to you, refreshed periodically based on your follow and block sets. Private to you.

Pre-populated leaderboards: To avoid empty leaderboards in the feature's early days, the App's launch-period leaderboards are seeded with anonymized completion times derived in aggregate from prior journey-mode play (Firebase Analytics data). These seeded entries are labelled with generic names (e.g. Player 042) and contain no identifying information.

Deleting your Daily Trials and Community data: You can permanently delete all of your Daily Trials and Community data — your gamer name reservation, your stored profile counters, every score record, your profile icon, every follow / follower edge, your block list, all denormalized counters, your suggested-players cache, and any local replay history — at any time from the in-app Profile screen via the "Delete my Daily Trials data" action. This calls our backend to remove the records from Firestore. The deletion is irreversible.

Daily Trials and Community features require an internet connection. The App does not use these features, and does not transmit any of the data above, unless you actively open the Daily Trials or Community sections of the menu.

How We Use Collected Data

The usage, device, and attribution data collected through Firebase and AppsFlyer is used to:

• Monitor app stability and fix crashes or bugs.
• Understand which features and levels players engage with.
• Improve overall app performance and user experience.
• Measure which of our marketing campaigns lead to app installs and engaged players, so we can run our promotions effectively.

We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not show advertisements inside the App. We share limited install and attribution data with our measurement partner (AppsFlyer) and with the advertising networks that deliver our campaigns — solely so we can measure the effectiveness of our own marketing, never to serve you targeted ads within the App.

Locally Stored Data

The App stores your game progress (such as your current level and settings preferences) locally on your device using standard platform storage. This data is not transmitted to us or any third party.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services that may collect or process data:

• Google Firebase Analytics: Provided by Google LLC. Firebase Analytics collects usage and device data as described above. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and the Firebase Data Privacy documentation.
• Firebase Authentication, Firestore, and Cloud Functions: Used only when you opt in to Daily Trials and Community features. These services store and serve your anonymous user ID, gamer name, trial scores, profile icon, journey-progress mirror, follow / follower graph, block list, and suggested-players cache so leaderboards, profiles, and follow lists can be displayed. Subject to the same Google / Firebase policies linked above.
• Firebase Remote Config: Used to remotely enable or disable optional features (including Daily Trials and Community features) without an app update. Remote Config does not collect personal information.
• Firebase Crashlytics: Used to receive crash reports so we can fix bugs. Reports include a stack trace, device information, and an anonymous installation identifier — no personal information.
• AppsFlyer: Provided by AppsFlyer Ltd. AppsFlyer is a mobile measurement partner that attributes app installs to our marketing campaigns, as described above. To do this it processes install, session, device, and (on Android) advertising-identifier data, and may share campaign-attribution results with the advertising networks that delivered a given campaign (for example Google or Meta). AppsFlyer's handling of this data is governed by the AppsFlyer Services Privacy Policy. These attribution results are also imported into Google Analytics (GA4) so the marketing source can be viewed alongside the anonymous usage data described above.

The App is also distributed through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, which may collect data independently in accordance with their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of Google and Apple.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction). The analytics data collected by Firebase does not identify individual users. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us at the email below, and we will take steps to delete such information.

Data Retention

Firebase Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted. You can reset your app instance identifier at any time by uninstalling and reinstalling the App.

Install and attribution data processed by AppsFlyer is retained in accordance with the AppsFlyer Services Privacy Policy. On Android you can reset or delete the advertising identifier used for attribution at any time from your device's Ads settings.

Daily Trials and Community records (anonymous user ID, gamer name, score documents, aggregate profile counters, profile icon, journey-progress mirror, follow / follower edges, block list, denormalized counters, and suggested-players cache) are retained indefinitely so that historic leaderboards and follow lists remain meaningful, unless you delete them using the in-app "Delete my Daily Trials data" action on the Profile screen. Deletion is irreversible.

Data Security

We rely on Google Firebase's security infrastructure to protect analytics data. While no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, Firebase employs industry-standard security measures to safeguard the data it processes. Game progress stored locally on your device is protected by your device's own security measures.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data under laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA/CPRA (California), or other applicable privacy regulations. These rights may include:

• The right to access the data collected about you.
• The right to request deletion of your data.
• The right to opt out of data collection.

To exercise these rights or ask questions, please contact us at the email below. You can also reset your analytics identifier by uninstalling and reinstalling the App, or disable analytics data sharing through your device's privacy settings. On Android, you can additionally reset or delete the advertising identifier used for marketing attribution, and opt out of ads personalisation, from your device's Ads settings; on iOS, because we do not request tracking permission, no advertising identifier is used. For Daily Trials and Community data specifically, the in-app Profile screen offers a one-tap "Delete my Daily Trials data" action that removes all of your records — scores, profile icon, journey-progress mirror, follow / follower edges, block list, denormalized counters, and suggested-players cache — from our backend.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
